There is No Time Limit

I was wondering... follow me here. If the Col were to be brutally murdered today by an alleged hippie cult. I know my supermodel wife would do what she could to make sure no one walked for as long as she lived. Now let's say I had three kids. I don't- I think there are enough people walking around on my earth anyway. But say I did. I'd want and expect the three of them to make sure that the killers didn't get off. Again, I get that.

Now I DO have two nephews and three nieces. I really do not know them- they are 30 + years EACH younger than me. I would NOT expect them to get absorbed into the mess of my murder. Hell, I wouldn't even like it much.

I guess the question I ask is, WHAT really constitutes a next of kin? I met Jay's nephew one afternoon 18 years ago at the USC special collection library. He did not even know the details of his uncle's murder. I had to turn him on to the HS novel, because that was all I knew at the time. Now, he remains the ONLY next of kin on the Sebring side to EVER attend a parole hearing. And even then he only did DECADES after the murder. Is that cool? I know it is legal, but I suspect his motives. The entire Kummer (Sebring) Family disowned the guy right? So what is this last minute "oh, my life was affected" shit?

Same with Smaldino. Neither Frank nor Suzann have EVER come to a hearing. These are the next of kin. NOT the ex-wife.

It just feels a bit off to me.

That's what I'm saying.

Hiya Col,

At Susan Atkins last hearing, Anthony Dimaria and Margaret Dimaria both attended. I know Anthony is Jay's nephew and I think Margaret was Jay's sister. Marie Ford also attended, although I don't know who she was related to. So, if both Anthony and Margaret attended, that means more than just Jays nephew attended..

I sometimes wonder about what next of kin actualy is in California.Do nephews and other extended family get to go to the parole board hearings? If not ,how did this case merit an exception?

Heaven
That is true.
Now why NOW?

Col, I can't answer the why now question..

Anthony said that he was only 3 years old when Jay died, and that his memories of Jay are very clear. That I doubt very much...

In my opinion, I don't care how long it took him to go, I'm just glad he's finally going. Maybe Debra had something to do with it...

I dunno if Patti's children are old enough to attend hearings.. They might be, but I'm not sure how old they are...

I think that maybe Debra was asked by the Smaldino family to attend. She's a veteran at these parole hearings and I think her presence helps them get through it...

The whole ring thing is a load of bullshit. Roman gave all of Sharons belongings to Paul Tate, they now belong to Debra. This person who's selling the fake rings claims to have been an actress who worked with Elvis.. I find that a little hard to believe... But I'm a very skeptical person anyway lol

What I meant by veteran is that she's had more experince going to these hearings than the Smaldino's do...

I'm not a big fan of Debra either. But I don't hate her, cause I don't know her...

Hmmm, my user name and password no longer works on the Sharon Tate discussion board. It worked fine last week....

Well, Paige knows that I'm not a Debra fan, but I do try to maintain respect because I know that she and Paige are friends.

I've never even posted on the Sharon Tate board, so I'm curious as to why my login information no longer works. All I've ever done there is just read the posts. KTS keeps me way too busy to get caught up in other discussions lol

Suzann LaBerg (Rosemary's daughter) attended a hearing for Tex in 1990 saying she'd forgiven him and thought he deserved to be released. Barf.

I think the Smaldino's are genuine. Angela first attended a hearing in 1999 (the hearing Leslie walked out of). Alice LaBianca (Leno's first wife) wrote a letter to the board the year before that. Leslie's group had been making comments about no one from the LaBianca family attending any of her hearing (e.g., Larry King Live) and implying tacit approval from the family for her release. I think they were worried should would really get a release date and decided to finally speak out.

Well, isn't that interesting. Debra had to call Roman in Paris to ask him about the ring. I was under the impression that Debra owned everything that was Sharon's. So she doesn't own this ring? Hmmmm, maybe she can cough up $25,000 and get it back...

I have to say, that it is very interesting that she doesn't already have it. $25,000 for an ugly ring that is missing stones? That's a bit much...

I just read the ring description. Garnets, sterling silver, opal.

Gah. Considering who they were, that is a piece of shit engagement ring.

Has anyone found a picture of her wearing it?

Yes, I've seen a picture of her wearing it. Someone posted it to a group I'm in. But the picture isn't a close up, so there is no way to tell if they're the same ring or not. But since Debra doesn't have the ring, it is possible that this could be it.. The missing stones bother me though. If this "Leigh" person loved and respected Sharon so much, you'd think she would have taken better care of something so irreplaceable.. Just my opinion...

The story is, Roman gave it away after Sharon's death....

I guess I just assumed it went to Sharon's family...

Does the state of California have limitations on who may attend a parole hearing? While I have deep respect for the victims families I find it hard to buy in to letting those who were too young to remember, or not yet born to speak at these hearings. This calls in to question as to the validity of the process.
I also don't see the point in anyone from the Tate family being at the Van Houten hearings. It gives the impression of a re-trial instead of a parole hearing.
