Susan Atkins / Amanda Knox

We don't usually discuss other crimes here but...

Amanda Knox is back in the news again. She is the American Woman who along with her fuck buddy of nine days killed her roommate in a fit of rage back in 2007.  The case attracts a lot of attention out there because people think she is cute (she's a 7 at best but desperate bloggers in their basement have lower standards) and because it is hard to believe that a young woman would viciously kill someone.  They obviously don't understand that female Dexters walk among us all the time.

Knox is a Narcissistic Sociopath who believes that she is the only person that matters.  The reason why she killed her roommate is simple, and reminds me of the theories we come back to here regarding Tate LaBianca- drugs. She and her accomplices Sollecito and Guede were self-admittedly high on Hashish.  People in the US who don't travel that much think that just means marijuana but real hash is an opiate.  It removes you from reality.

Anyway The Col got interested in this case because in the same way the Tate LaBianca case got confused by falsehoods and lies from both sides, so too has the Knox case.  Amanda in a very real way reminds me of SEXY SADIE/ Susan Atkins.  Here are ten parallels.

1- An inability to STFU.- Atkins blew the TLB case wide open by blabbing to cell mates and later the Prosecution about the murders.  Knox blew the case open by accompanying her fuck buddy to his police interview (she wasn't even expected) and when realizing that the alibi was blown, shooting off her mouth with both an incriminating confession and with a story trying to frame an innocent man for the actual killing.

2- Blood Money- Atkins sold her story of the murders to the LA Times and then published it as a quickie paperback THE KILLING OF SHARON TATE.  It was self- serving and full of inaccuracies and sold poorly.  Knox sold her story of the murders to Harper Collins which published it as a book called WAITING TO BE HEARD.  It was self- serving and full of inaccuracies and sold poorly

3- Evidence Everywhere- Atkins left her knife behind.  Knox left her blood behind.

4- Changing Stories- Atkins claimed she stabbed Sharon and enjoyed it.  Then she said she just held her while Tex stabbed.  Then she was just watching.  Knox said she wasn't there.  Then she was there but an man she blamed who was innocent did it while she screamed.  Then she wasn't there again.

5- Colorful Prosecutors- Bugliosi of course had abused his office to stalk his milkman prior to the murders and would beat his mistress after them.   Italian Mignini, while not the bad guy Amanda's paid followers would like to paint him as, definitely has a dramatic Catholic view of sex and good and evil.

6- Pretty and Sexy- Atkins was one of the most attractive of the Mansonites, had a great body and had been a stripper.  She slept with most of the members on the ranch.  She flirted with reporters and the court.   Knox is considered attractive and young.  She seems to have a great body and kept a journal of guys she humped on trains.  She slept with anybody which annoyed her roommate.  She continues to try to flirt with the press to get her way.

7- Drugs- Atkins admits that she and lead killer Tex Watson were on Meth the night of the Tate Murders.  Much of her memory remained vague.  Knox was on Hashish the night of the killing.  Her memories have never added up.

8- Unclear Motive- The motive for TLB is why we have this blog.  The Prosecution is not required to provide motive only evidence that someone committed the crime. The likely TLB motive involves drugs and drug burns.  Nevertheless the prosecution put forth a silly motive (race war) and sold that as something people could accept. In any case, what is certain is the Atkins really didn't know what the motive was. We may never know what the TLB motive was.  It is unclear why Knox killed her roommate Kercher. Theories include theft, jealousy and run of the mill sociopathy. The Italian prosecutor put forth a sex games theory that sounds silly.  He didn't even try to sell that theory  We may never know what the motive was for Knox to kill.

9- Crime Partners- In Atkins' case she refused to testify, tried to defend her crime partners after initially blowing the case open, and brought everyone down.  In Knox's case she refused to testify, tried to defend her crime partners after initially blowing the case open, and will bring everyone down.

10- Life In Prison- In the end, all the lies, good looks and games could not stop Justice.  Atkins went to prison and died in prison. Towards the end, even as she was dying, she as not let out. In the end, beginning Monday, the wheels of justice will lead Knox back to prison for at least 30 years and with all the games she has played, likely life.

There are a lot of other parallels including the press attention, horrendous hygiene and the idiots who believed in the killer's innocence.  But the fact is both Susan Atkins and now Amanda Knox got what is coming to them.

The more I read about this case the murkier it gets. I for one shut my cell phone off a lot. I hate it. I only bring it from the car to the house if my wife is away and she may call. Otherwise it's off after 7PM.

Has any evidence been presented about Amanda & Rafelle's habits about when they kept their phones on and off in the period before the murder?

Hash is definitely all marijuana: The word is Arabic for grass. But you are right, Col, it is positively stupefying.

There used to be a ton of it around when Patty went to Uni in the UK. It came in what was called a "nine bar." Your dealer would come over, hold a butter knife to the furnace, then use it to slice a triangle off the end of the bar. If you were lucky you got to cup your hands over the resulting smoke...it was like a freebie or a lagniappe. While in Amsterdam one time, Patty bought a bong and took it back for her friends to try. Three days later it was so clogged we had to throw it out.

Patty bets you have never been a stoner...you get way too much done.

PP- I don't really do much except Scotch- not even coffee- I hate altering my chemistry.

Matt- The murkiness is all in the media. The media will be all wtf when they are back in prison. The evidence is overwhelming. Start here http://themurderofmeredithkercher.com/The_Evidence

I agree with these sentiments except I am not at all sure that Knox will ever do any time.

What really bugs me about this is how many people I know who don't give a hoot about children dying in war, famine, as a result of natural disasters, etc, all because they are not Americans. Or Caucasians . But they get completely outraged over how Amanda Knox was treated overseas.

Starship, I could not have said it better (2nd paragraph, and agree about 1st). My sentiments exactly.

Her DNA was found co-mingled with the victim's blood in five places in the bathroom, hall, and site of the staged break-in, and her profile was found in Luminol footprints the same size and shape of her feet

Turn off the lights ... the party's over ...

... but she's at least an 8

She's not that attractive and every report was about her horrible hygiene- like stinky. I knew a girl in college that was stinky and man, girls should not stink.

Starship- the sentence will be 30 years with maybe another 10 for the lies in her book.

God wouldn't it be great in BUG had to do time for the lies in HS?

Another similarity is crazy behaviour. Amanda was doing the splits and cartwheels while waiting to be questioned, Sadie was go go dancing in prison.

Hashish is definitely not an opiate. It may be stupefying if taken in large amounts. I don't see how it would cause you to kill unless you were already predisposed. Alcohol would be just as if not more likely to lower inhibitions towards violence.

You might be interested in Reclaiming Parkland: Tom Hanks, Vincent Bugliosi, and the JFK Assassination in the New Hollywood by Jim DiEugenio. The book just came out this week. The author mentioned that he did some research on Bugliosi's conduct in regard to the Tate Labianca prosecution.

I live in California and have an MD's recommendation card and occasionally buy hash from a medical marijuana dispensary. I agree with ElComadrej777. The only abnormal behavior I ever get from hash is eating cold pizza and drinking chocolate milk while sitting in a bean bag chair while watching Star Trek reruns......

Oh yes ,tried several types of Hashish in my younger days, including one from India supposedly with veins of opium throughh it, not a trance inducing substane, you probably become disoriented from gobstoppers.

I see HarryRag has come to your blog like a fly migrates to shit. This is not to say your blog is shit, far from it.

Amanda Knox has one very big difference from Atkins - innocence. It doesn’t really matter if you believe it or not, because she has been exonerated and is free to live her life.

In the meantime, stick to TLB blogging. You’re much better at that. Oh, and it isn’t quite right for a 50-something man to have so much to say about a 20-couple year old’s looks.
