SHOCKER- Leslie Denied

Leslie Van Houten heads to her 19th parole hearing Tuesday, July 6. Being held for murder as part of the notorious Manson Family’s grisly Tate La Bianca Killings in August of 1969, Van Houten has been denied parole 18 times.

After the California Death Penalty was overturned and death sentences were commuted to life, Van Houten a devout Manson follower found herself in the California Institution for Women in Chino, while Charlie and several others reside in Northern California prisons.

Parole didn’t bode well for any of the family.

Patricia “Katie” Krenwinkel keeps company at the Chino Women center, as well and was last denied parole for the 11th time in 2008.

Calling his cell at Corcoran State Prison home, Charlie won’t have a peek at parole again until 2012. He was last denied in 2007 for the 11th time.

Lynette “Squeaky” Fromme faced life for an assignation attempt on President Gerald Ford, but was released August of last year. Squeaky was involved but not charged in the Family's 1972 Stockton murders in the house on Flora St.

Susan “Sadie Mae” Atkins died from a brain tumor serving her life sentence in the Central California Women’s Facility in Chowchilla, at the age of 61. Her request for parole one year prior to her death, due to her debilitated state and paralysis was unanimously denied. Being denied parole 18 times, she holds the honor of longest incarcerated female in California’s history.

Linda Kasabian escaped imprisonment as a witness for the prosecution turning state’s evidence for immunity.

Convicted of seven counts of murder one and one count of conspiracy, Charles “Tex” Watson waits for his 14th parole hearing in December 2011, at Mule Creek State Prison in Northern California.

Serving two life sentences at the California Men’s Colony in San Luis Obispo for the Hinman and “Shorty” Shea murders, Bruce Davis was granted parole by the Board in January of this year. The decision was overturned by Governor Schwarzenegger last week. He will again be eligible in 2011.

Col is back strong!!! Great Posts, and the Headline quotes are priceless...

LuLu seems to be going backwards. She went from a one year denial, to a two year denial, and now she gets three. She seems to be becoming more of a threat as she gets older. One she saw Bruce get slammed down as the Col so accurately predicted- she had to see the writing on the wall. I think, for all intents and purposes when Bobby got the stiff denial as soon as it was allowable, that the writing was on the wall. None of them out , no way and no how.
And for LuLu it must truely come as a shock. All along - so many people writing about her, and so many friends telling her that she was the one... The one who really would be free someday. The one who really was young and stupid. The one who really did the least.I dont believe for one second ever- did she think she wouldnt get out at some point. Until maybe today.
How harsh those words from the parole board must have sounded ... how hard the reality must have set in. The finality. my life is going to end like this, right here. It was wasted, and its over now without me being able to do one thing about it.

Somewhere up in heaven a fat shady grocer and his proud, strong wife are having a drink and smiling. down here in South Florida ST. Circumstance is doing the same thing :)

And Roman Polanski won't be extradited. Gee, it's nice to have money.

It is very sad that they let that child molesting, smug pedophile go free. But- he really wasn't suffering much in his vacation home either. I promise if it were up to me- he would be sitting back in California in a cell with Charlie arguing over who had the worse childhood.

St. C, that would be a GREAT SNL skit.

RP: At least you knew your mother into adulthood!
CM: My mother was a whore! She left me all the time when I was a kid!
RP: My mother made me run away from the Nazis!
CM: Nazis? That Hitler dude was a tuned in guy who levelled the karma of the Jews, baby!
RP: The Nazis KILLED my mother Charlie!
CM: Karma was not done with you dude, Ole Tex sure proved that....

There is apparently another bad bio coming out on A&E on Thursday night. It has "Manson" in the title and the ad says something about the interviewer wondering how three young women could me turned into "monsters". In the blurb, Tex Watson ain't even mentioned. You'ns can watch it and tell me how it was, cuz I don't have T.V. at all any more, and don't miss it much.

Hey all!! St. Circumstance is down in Key West getting drunk and checking out his favorite local Ft. Lauderdale Band- " The Heavy Pets" who are doing two nights at the Green Parot. I missed the Bravo thing, but suspect you are all correct in that it is probably a bunch of rehashed clips and interviews. Same ole Same ole.

What I am doing though is going to be a little more interesting. In three weeks I am flying out to San Fransisco for the Outside Lands Music Fesitval in Golden Gate Park. It will be the ST.'s first trip to the 'Haight" I am going to visit all the old haunts of charlie, Bobby, and the rest of them while they were in that area. In Feb of next year I will make my first trips out to Chatsworth, and the Topanga canyon. I have been up to Cielo once in my life when I was much younger, but the police chased me and the guys I convinced to drive me there away lol. I have been following this for over twenty years, I own almost every video, documentary, and book ever made on the subject. It is time to go and check these places out for myself... There are certainly some places that would be very nice to finally match to my imagination...

Hi St. Circumstance, have a good time in San Francisco. You said you'll be hitting all the sites...so I hope you'll get to Alamo Square. Fulton~Scott~Hayes and Steiner Sts.

The Westerfeld Mansion, where Bobby lived with Kenneth Anger, is on the square at the corner of Fulton and Scott...1198 Fulton. It rises in a steep reach up from that corner like a vision and blows your mind the first time you see it.

Almost all of the exterior is original, though some of the mouldings and woodwork around the entry have been replaced. What hasn't been replaced has been nicely restored. There is a wrought iron gate across the bottom of the very steep stairs at the sidewalk now...and the entire house has been painted several times over the years. Last time I was there, it was an ugly dark brown, which did nothing for its awesome presence but make it look witchy. The crow's nest is original, and the exterior front doors with the panels where 'Do What Thou...' dripped in blood red paint are amazingly all original. Those doors are actually lightweight privacy doors that open to the heavier solid doors of the entry hall...they're often not latched and drift half open, so you can see inside the vestibule.

The 'Postcard Row' houses are also on the square, adjacent to 1198 at Fulton and Steiner.
If you can, try to get up there on a clear and sunny afternoon. There is no bluer blue than the San Francisco sky on a clear day, and it's beautiful on the hills of Alamo Square on a clear day with Postcard Row lit by the afternoon sun...you can see all the way down Fulton to the Opera House and City Hall. Really nice views from up there.

Wow Marliese- very descriptive!! You may have author abilities in you :) You painted a really great picture for me, and made me even more excited than I already was... Thanks for those excellent tips!! This will be my fist time in San Fran. I grew up in New Jersey, and although I managed to get myself out to California in the 80' when I was a teenager- I only made it out of San Diego once in the two years I was there, and that was for two nights in L.A. I was in my infancy with Charles Manson interest back then, I had actually just read Bugulosi's book for the first time. I went with two friends up to the Valley to stay the weekend with one of there sisters. The sisters boyfriend had some weed, and we smoked and watched the Documentary which we rented from a video store. Then we tried to drive over and check out the house- but never made it up Cielo. I have a much better comprehension of the entire history now, and it seems like the family really was more or less " born" in the Haight, so it will be very interesting. I gotta compliment your painting of the picture Marliese- it sounds like you were there yesterday :)

Bob Wier and Phil Lesch of the Greatful Dead are playing at the festival I am going to as well... I am hoping they play my favorite Dead song... its called- ST. Circumstance lol

I wonder Marliese- if you have ever been to any of the stomping grounds in Los Angeles area? That's next on my list....

I'm really glad I painted a picture for you! I could talk about that house for hours. The interior was restored in the early 1980's, and some original Westerfeld furnishings returned...through a granddaughter. I doubt they remain to this day though.

The house looks much as it does in the old photos, from the stairs on the sidewalk. But its grand stature is wildly apparent if you approach along the park from the corner of Hayes and Scott. From that straight ahead view, the city falls away beneath and the house towers up into the sky all by itself. Amazing. Don't be up there at night though...

I've tried to find some Susan sites in SF, but don't have exact addresses. Among other places, she is supposed to have stayed in a house on or near the corner of Lyon and Oak, at the panhandle of the park, but I don't know which one it is...the enormous old place I think it may be is one or two down from the corner and in seriously dilapidated condition.

I've been to most of the L.A. sites...Topanga, Cielo many times, Waverly, Spahn's many times...but only on the front ranch, I haven't trespassed along the creek or cave areas. The area where George's house, the movie set, and the barn and horse corral stood is a smaller plot of land than it appears in old photos. It's just a little plateau on a bend in the road. It will be bone dry and burned up now. It's green with some wildflowers in the winter and spring, depending on winter rains.
And I've been to Sharon's grave.

Have a great time in the great State of California...

St. C,

Good to know there is another deadhead on this blog...

Anonymous said...

Yes Matt- I dig the dead lol Not sure I deserve the title of "Deadhead" I only saw them a few times While Jerry Garcia was alive- I was a late bloomer I guess. I have seen Bob Weir and Ratdog/Phi and Friends alot- but didn't really start to appreciate the music until much later than most of my friends. I was always more of a Zeppelin guy growing up as a teenager. I always preferred, and do to this day, to drink beer and get high over tripping- so maybe that had something to do with it....

or maybe not :) Either way- I like a lot of the songs.

St.C,

My first Dead show was Elizabethtown, NJ on labor day weekend 1977 when I was 16. Saw them at leat 300 times before Jerry passed. Great memories.

I keep my XM turned on to the GD station at my office desk and in my car. Can't get enough.

This is officially on topic, since Charlie had his "Jesus Vision" at a GD concert. LMAO...
