License to Kill

Does anyone else find strange that Linda Kasabian was chosen to drive to two nights of mass murder because she "had the only valid driver's license"? The Col preaches on this blog for us to "Question Everything" and I was wondering just now out of a clear blue Sunday whether that was true or not. California then, as now, was all about car culture and when a kid turns 16, it becomes all about getting licenses and wheels so you can get away from your folks. Okay Maybe Charlie had lost his driving rights through crimes or bad driving or whatever. But there were a LOT of people around the ranch. Much more hardcore Family members. Remember, Linda was there less than six weeks. Didn't Gypsy have a license? I know Mary and Sandy were in jail in Van Nuys, but didn't Brenda have a license? Hell, Sadie could strip a few miles away but didn't have a license to drive? It might be true- I know people hitched back then- but it just seems- odd. Obviously hindsight is everything and Linda's future Judas behavior calls in to question sending her at all- but was she really sent because of a driver's license? Did the Family routinely get pulled over and hassled by the Fuzz? Because this "fact" does indeed make Charlie seem very calculating as well as knowledgeable that shit would be going down, bad shit.

If that WAS NOT why Linda was sent, then why was she? Obviously Charlie, Tex and Sadie (her supposed closest friend there, next to Gypsy) had reason to believe that she could be trusted and relied on. And until busted, she was reliable. WHAT did they know that we don't about why Linda was trusted to go to TWO nights of homicide?

Very good question Col. I have always thought that this was a fishy answer to why Linda went with the mudering crew. Did she actually drive on those two nights? And what about when the family went creepy crawling, who drove then and was it important to Manson that it be someone with a license?

some accounts say that tex did the driving to and from cielo and that manson drove to and from the labiancas. so which source is the correct one? and how are we to know for sure that linda even drove at all? none of us were there.

Linda says that she drove in her testimony as as AG can tell you, she is an honest girl.

also, if she DID NOT drive then I have no logical reason why the hell she was there... she was neither inner circle nor trusted

tex also said he drove so who's telling the truth?

tex said in his book "will you die for me" we piled into the car, with me in the drivers seat with sadie next to me, katie and linda in the back he says linda drove away from cielo but that he drove to it. so where do you come up with him saying linda drove there? the following night tex claims that sometimes manson drove and sometimes linda did with manson giving her directions. he says that when they stopped to wash off the blood, he was the one who drove away. susan also says in her book that tex drove to cielo. she further claims that tex did the driving when they left and linda threw the clothes and knives out the window. she also says that the next night, manson did the driving. so who's lying? they all can't be right.

All of this is interesting but back to the point- if she didn't drive ALL THE TIME because CM was worried they'd be pulled over...then the newbie wasn't there because of her license. Then why was she there?

Tex- "We piled into the car, me in the driver's seat with Sadie next to me, Katie and Linda in back, all of us in dark shirts and jeans. I was wearing cowboy boots but the girls were barefoot. "

Tex- "We got lost. I missed a turnoff and we ended up going all the way into Hollywood, then back west on Santa Monica Boulevard through West Hollywood and the edges of Beverly Hills. We cut up past the landscaped mansions, most of them dark now, to Sunset Boulevard, then to Benedict Canyon, then finally turned left onto Cielo Drive.

When I pulled up to the big gate at the end of the private drive, directly under a power pole..."

TEX- "We all tumbled in-Linda squealing away, while in the front seat next to her I..."

TEX- "Linda turned off Benedict Canyon onto Portola Drive, one of the winding side streets, looking for a place where we could wash."

TEX- "In my rush I flooded the engine, and as I struggled to get the car started again the old man came up to my window and stuck his hand in, grabbing for the keys"

Next Night- TEX-

"Sometimes Charlie would be at the wheel, sometimes Linda, with Charlie giving her directions"

Sorry GLH Tex states this book is based on recordings he made 4 mos after the murders.

Linda did not ONLY drive.

That is the reason given by everyone... she was a newbie, not trusted... Mary was in jail in Van Nuys...

I want to know why she was there. I don't. It doesn't make sense.

I believe Nelson is still alive, silenced by his wife and child.

Ask the KTS people Denise knows him.

I never said that anyone was threatened at least recently about anything.

i don't see how linda could have known frykowski. she'd only been with the family a month and had just come to calif from mexico.
i think she was brought along because she was simply handy when the invitations were given out and she was expendible. my mother told me that back in her teenage years they went joyriding all the time without having a license. they just had a licensed driver in the car in case they got pulled over then the licensed person could switch with them. maybe that was the case here, they needed one licensed driver in the car. you never know, it could be the cops first minute on the job lol
the killers are all liars tex claims he drove both to and from cielo in one source then says something different in another. manson says he did the driving the 2nd night. so which liar do you believe?

Shelby
actually if you follow ALL the testimony it is fairly consistent- Sadie Grand Jury- Kasabian Trial- Tex today.
It is the discrepancies that are worth studying.
Linda didn't drive.
I don't think she knew Frykowski.
But I don't thinks he was chosen because she was "handy". Brenda or Gypsy would have been safer choices.

we can speculated forever and one of us may have already stated the correct answer but we'll never know. try asking officer bob. maybe someday he will suddenly remember that he met linda at a garage sale and they talked for hours.

bob is on kts. he "says" he lived at cielo dr for a while then out of the blue one day he remembered he met linda in a bar.

some people have a great problem reading and understanding the english language.
"Can you hear me Officer Bob? I heard a rumor that you met Linda
Kasabian at a garage sale or a bar or something and wound up chatting
with her for hours. Is that true? If so I was wondering if it would be
possible to chat with you for a moment either in the group or via
private email.

Can you let me know? Please feel free to email me. Thanks!!!!

Michael"

the garage sale thing was a sarcastic remark. chatting with her for hours was also a sarcastic remark. officer bob says he met linda in a bar years ago. i doubt there is much truth to it considering he forgot to mention it when he had his other group remember the victims. go back and read my post again michael you will see it was sarcastic.

Your right Denise, we will never know, unless the ones who do know the truth, speak the truth.

Could the answer to this question be as simple as she was the only one available with a drivers license?

Doctor

READ MAN

She didn't drive!

Dok said...

I never said she drove. What I said was maybe the reason she was there is as simple as what they said. With their great minds (joke) they felt safer with someone with a drivers license going with them.
